Spain Wins EURO 2008

The EURO 2008 just came to an end with Spain wining Germany in the finals 1-0. Well done to the Spanish team and to all the other participant countries. Everybody enjoyed quality football from all teams. Next event, World Cup in 2010 in South Africa.

Changes in Spain’s monarchy?
Juan Carlos, Kind of Spain, turns 70 this Saturday but he is not going to enjoy the celebrations. After 32 years in the throne and after managing to guide Spain to a democratic transition, he is faced with public dislike. From lefties to conservatives people are starting to ask not only for his abdication of the throne in favor for his son, Felipe, but also for a general abolishment of monarchy in Spain. Various events have caused the kings popularity to drop such as him telling Hugo Chavez (Venezuela’s president) to shut up along, separatist movement supporters in Catalonia burning his poster (as he symbolizes Spanish unity) and a mini family scandal, that of the divorce of Princess Elena after 12 years of marriage. Most importantly there is an ongoing public discussion on whether monarchy is any good or not.
However he decides to spend his birthday, he will be thinking in the back of his head a solution to his latest problem.
