SkySails: Wind Powered Ships Are Back In Fashion

May 10, 2008 · Filed Under News, Technology · 1 Comment

Boats and Ships have been using wind power to move around the globe for thousands of years. Its only the last 100 years or so that we converted to using oil. Now that this fossil fuel its running low and expensive, people are trying to go back to the good old fashion wind power. This is what SkySails, a German company, is trying to do.

The introduction of a 160 meter parachute-like, kite promises approximately 20% reduction in fuel in a 2 month journey, which roughly translates to saving 2.5 tons of oil ($1,000 per day).

Rumor has it that it was destroyed so that its technology will not fall in enemy hands!
