Mathias Koehler, a German designer, is behind the Nereus. This is a kite powered watercraft that is able to submerge for short periods of time. With a behaviour similar to a jet ski it promises hours of fun in the sea and all in an ecological way as it is essentially powered by the wind.

This scooter is equipped with fins, which are steered with the feet and joysticks (handlebars) that control the kite. There is no information regarding its price as it is still a prototype.

jDome: The Revolution In 3D Gaming?

May 12, 2008 · Filed Under News, Technology · Comment

jdome_explained

No need for virtual reality when you can have the jDome. This gadget offers the 3D effect by using a simple light trick. A projector shines the game/image on a semi spherical semi transparent glass. When the gamer stands in the middle of the dome he feels surrounded by this 180 degree view. This is the brain child of John Nilsson and it is still under development. The expected price tag (without the projector) is $125-200 a far cry from the prototype’s cost of $6000. Hopefully when it hits the market, it will come at a decent price.

The trend in mobile phone design is “the smaller the better” but today if you want to be famous you need to do something different. Mr Tan from Songyuan, China, made a 22 Kilo cell phone!

This beast weighs 621 times more than the prototype he used and it is amount a meter tall. It does everything that a normal mobile phone does, including taking pictures.

It took him about a year to construct it and he hopes that this might have a chance to go into the Guinness book of records, but I am not sure if it will as its not really mobile…it needs to be plugged in to the mains supply to work :)

Transmitting power wireless to devices

January 15, 2008 · Filed Under News, Technology · Comment

wireless-powerIts probably the next big thing. When most people were using radio frequencies for communications, Powercast was trying to use them to carry power to various devices. And they did it!

Its the first company that manage to make this concept into a reality. At this moment they are discussing with various clients on how to improve and promote this new technology.

A prototype of Powercast’s creation was shown in CES 2008 (where the video below was taken). From what it looks, the devices need to be within a certain range with the transmitter. So in the not so far away future we may see this new technology in our homes
