Mars: Phoenix Finds Mysterious White Material Under Surface

NASA’s Phoenix arrived on Mars on May 25th in order to spend a 3 month journey searching for ice (water) and proof of primitive life forms. Well yesterday Phoenix dug up something strange, it found a layer of white substance a few inches underneath Mars’ red soil. Scientists believe its not ice but may be some sort of salt and hope that ice might be found beneath it.
Update: NASA now believes that the white material might have been ice as after four days is disappeared (evaporated). Read the report here.

If though the Phoenix seems too big for you then how about the Seattle 1000, which is 36 meter (118 foot) long and boasts a 3000 nautical mile cruising range enough to cross the Atlantic. It is also equipped with an 1100 kilowatt-hours battery that gives it enough power to stay underwater for up to 20 days.
