What would you do if someone whistled at you when you were walking on the road? An Israeli tourist in New Zealand responded by, stripping and giving the workmen that whistled at her more than they bargained.

The town of Kerikeri was shocked by the woman’s response who hear the whistle, when she was trying to use the ATM machine, stopped to get butt naked and after withdrawing cash, she got dressed and walked away.

She was kindly told off at the Police station but this did not stop her from further trouble. She ended up arrested few days later for stubbing out a cigarette on a bar member’s face in the tourist the town of Coromandel.

All around the Internet you will see a lot of strange things being voted for and reviewed. Something caught my eye was this strange list of “Best airports to sleep”. The sleepinginairports.com conducts a research/review of airports and what to expect there.

About 5,000 people have participate in the voting of the best airports to sleep. In this site you will also find reviews of most world airports along with the chance to cast your vote. The top three airports are:

  • Amsterdam, Netherlands
Why? Children’s play area, Internet, showers, In transit areas feature comfortable sleeping chairs while pre-check-in seats are horrible, a casino to make your stay here go quickly

  • Athens, Greece
Why? As a new airport there are reports of it being “pleasant” and luxurious in comparison to other European airports. Padded benches, free Internet, clean.

  • Auckland, New Zealand
Why? Few announcements, movable chairs and benches, comfortable couches, showers, mini-theatre with lounge chairs.

The Kayan Tribe and Their Troubles

It is probably one of the worse cases of ridiculing the human dignity. The Kayan are a group of people, tribe, that during the 90’s migrated from Burma to Thailand. In their tribe it is a custom for the women to wear rings around their neck like the woman in the photo above. By starting to wear them at a young age, their neck starts to grow and elongate.

These people are literally treated like animals in a circus, with the tolerance of the Thailand government. Tourist trips are organized for people to visit the Kayans and see their long necks. Tourists have the right at a fee, to take pictures with the Kayans. Every woman receives about 30 euros per month from the tourism profits, where as a man gets 5 euros.

The drama that these people are going through was made public when a 23 year old girl called Zember decided to go to migrate to New Zealand.

The Thailand government, does not allow her to leave the country thinking that this will influence negatively the long necked women tourism. It is the same reason why they do not allow the Kayan moving to other parts of the country either. have a look a the video that shows the Kayans.

Buy your own number from 1 to 1000

January 15, 2008 · Filed Under News, Odd · Comment

Well this is a once chance in a life time, your chance to buy your own number from 1 to 1000. Simply pick the number you want (if it is still available) and few days later receive it through post!

Onethousandpaintings is the company behind this and what they offer is simple:

“One thousand numbers = one thousand paintings. All beautifully painted on canvas (approx. 12 x 12 x 1.5 inches). Each number is unique - the number and the demand define the price. A piece of Internet art history“.

    404

Calculating the price for the number you want is a bit tricky they do not have all the same price. Here is the price calculator as stated from the official site:

    “Price = 1000 - number.
    Initial discount: 90%.
    Current discount: 20%.
The discount will decrease by an absolute 10% for every 100 paintings sold.
    Min. price: $40″.

i.e. number 316 will set you back $547.20, but what the heck you will have something that none else in the world will have! From this calculation I assume that number 1000 must have been free or something!!

If you are interested hurry up because they already have sold 762 numbers. Do have in mind that they ship the numbers only to:

Paintings have been sold to the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, China, Singapore, Mexico, Brasil, South Africa, Germany, France, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Denmark, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Kyrgyzstan, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Portugal, and Israel.

    Good luck!

Josh Parsons a lecturer in the university of Otago, New Zealand. A while ago while watching some slags he notices that some are nice, colorful and elegant while some others where boring and ugly.

So he decided to grade and classify the worlds flags. As an example have a look at the Greek flag above, Mr Parsons gave a score of 70/100 because its impressively eyewatering, with only two colours, where as the flag of Northern Mariana Islands got a score of 2/100 because it appears to have been constructed from clip art.

Another example is the Cyprus flag which got 40/100due to it depicting a map of the country

Top score belongs to the flag of Gambia which receives 90/100 for its great design, color choice and also because it represents the geography of the country without depicting a map.

    Bureaucracy kills hope…everywhere

January 1, 2008 · Filed Under Living, News · Comment

Four months ago a little girl was born in Samoa with total face deformation. The doctors told the parents that they cannot do anything and they should let it die. The parents though could not do that to their child so they started feeding it in secrecy trying to keep it alive.

This story brought the attention of the public who has already donated 60,000 euros , not only from Samoa but also from New Zealand for, so that she can get an operation. The family’s plans to save this little girl were spoiled from the New Zealand government who decided not to grant a visa for her operation saying that this will not save her!

This story is now known all over the world and I think the weight of the peoples opinions may persuade the New Zealand government to give this family a hope. I am not sure what is the logic behind denying a visa to a 4 month old baby, especially knowing that the citizens of New Zealand are the ones who made the biggest contribution to save the little girl.

You can visit the web page dedicated to this little girl here http://babymiracle.co.nz/
