Memristor Shows The Future Of PC’s

April 30, 2008 · Filed Under Lead Story, News · Comment

memristor

Back in 1971 Leon Chua, an engineering student studying non-linear circuits, made the assumption that a fourth basic circuit element (besides the the capacitor, resistor and the inductor) exists. He even went all the way to come up with its mathematical expression and its physical behaviour.

Now in HP Labs, scientists manage to create this new element, called memristor. This component can process information in the same manner that the human brain does. It works by remembering how much charge has gone through it and hence it can be used to make memory chips that do not loose their stored information when the PC is switched off.

By having a component whose resistance is increasing depending on how much current has passed through it, PC’s would be able to run not only on 1’s and 0’s but also in in between states, hence carrying more information.

The results from this work will be published in today’s edition of Nature.

Ebay: The Worlds Largest Music Collection Is Sold!

greatest-music-collection

Few hours ago one of the most expensive Ebay auctions just came to an end. It was called the worlds largest music collection and it has 3,000,000 Vinyl records and 300,000 CD’s. The selling price at the auction end was $3,002,150.00 and the estimated real value of the collection is speculated to be over $50,000,000. The interest for this collection was great as the auction web page attracted over 230,000 visitors

The lucky winner that is going to give $3,002,150 for this collection is user jopsoup. His last purchase is a 1GB memory card for his digital camera and it cost him $5. I wonder which person that has $3,000,000 to give for CD’s will go on Ebay to buy a $5 memory card :)

A hidden camera on your belt

The joy of the journalist/reporter and the pinnacle of all hidden cameras is here. Ajoka is the company that manufactures this new toy and with it you can film color videos with voice without anyone knowing it. It takes up to a 2GB memory card and just by pointing your belly here and there you can film almost anything. Go to that government agency where the ask for bribery or to your college professor who wants something in exchange for better grades and film all the evidence in world and expose the culprits on national TV.

Yours for only $150 from here

Attention: It is not suitable for certain other kinds of hidden filming as it will be out of focus…

Spiderman is a batchelor again!

spiderman-marriage

The world of comic books is facing one of the biggest events in its history. Spiderman and his wife (yes he was married in the comic books) Mary Jane Watson are no longer together.

In the previous issue (#545) the couple made a deal with Mephisto in order to save Aunt May’s life. In this deal Mephisto was to erase from the couples memory them ever meeting including their wedding. Right were we all started to get confused, the next issue arrived with Marvel’s official reply.

?It was what we had to do in order to keep Spiderman fresh for the next generations? said Marvel’s director in order to explain to us why Spiderman is being a bachelor again.

I wonder which one would be the next big news in the world of comic books.
