University Of Sussex In Second Life

The Sussex University found a nice way to introduce its self to prospective students around the world and also to give a chance to old students to remember the good old days.
The Web Team of Sussex created with in Second Life the Campus with the outmost detail. Visitors can meet in the e-campus, go to the library or even attend online seminars.

When 24/7 video clubs came out I was very impressed by the robotic system that gave you the DVD of your choice and then you returned it, it recognise what it was and placed back in its place.
Now days I guessed I got used to it and it no longer impresses me.
If I was a student in Utah I would have begged them to let me stare at the huge robotic system that they made to service their library. The system, named Automated storage and Retrieval Center (ARC), manages 2,000,000 books and had a price tag in the range of a few million dollars.

The Library Hotel is introducing to the hotel industry a new concept. The 10 story building has a total of 60 rooms, all with access to a total of 6,000 books (100 books for each room).
Each floor represents a specific category of books, ie if you like maths and science you have to choose the 5th floor. Each room represents a subcategory, ie if you want to read books on ancient history then you need to stay in the 9th floor (history section) and in room 2 (ancient history).
This arrangement is based in the Melvil Dewey’s (1876) decimal classification system.
I personally would stay on the 6th floor where all the technology books are. Not sure which room I would choose as there is no internet category ![]()
For now this hotel can be found only in New York but I expect to see more of them popping elsewhere in the world.
