Imagine having a wallpaper that lights up your house. Well you do not have to imagine any more. Jonas Samson, an interior designer from the Netherlands, has came up with new kind of wallpaper that lights up your room and your life. Jonas designed this as part of his final-year postgraduate degree and that alone is very promising. This 2D light source uses light emitting diodes (LEDs), that have little power consumption at low cost. To create conventional items into works of high tech design is certainly a unique skill and we are looking forward for Jonas next idea.

This innovative idea will soon become an every day reality when the Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLED) technology become more commercial. See a video of Anil Duggal of GE Global Research who explains the idea behind OLEDs

Meyda Tiffany installed in Stanley theatre, New York, the largest chandelier made from LED’s. As the company states the energy saved by using LED’s is very large.

This chandelier has a total of 328 LED’s that use 1120 Watts, as much as a coffee maker, where as if it used conventional bulbs it would need 7435 Watts which is equivalent to 17 refrigerators. We have to note here that these LED’s have a life span of 15 years in contrast to ordinary bulbs that last up to 2 years.

Think of all the energy that we would all save up if we did something similar in our houses.

If the answer was year to any of the above then you need to have a look at two products that are here to stay. The first one is the Faucet Buddy (shown above) which will give you an exact temperature reading, along with an eco-friendly meter that tells you how much water you wasted.

The second solution is Faucet Light, another fancy gadget that incorporates temperature sensitive LED’s. This device shows with colors the temperature of the water running down your tap. For instance when the water is cold the light is blue and if the temperature goes above 32 degrees Celsius then the light turns red. This provides an excellent light show especially when you pour yourself a drink and I am sure all kids will love this.

Both of these temperature indicators are an add on to your faucet and fit most taps.

A while ago Art.Lebedev designed an “ideal” keyboard named Optimus Maximus in which every button was a small LED display. Even thought it was a bit advanced for its time, Art.Lebedev managed to bring it to life and end up selling it for 370 euros a piece.

Today Art.Lebedev presents us with optimus tactus. A keyboard which is an entire touch display.

This keyboard does not have “ordinary” push buttons and that translates to that there is no size limit. This means that you can design the keyboard the way you want it ie. you can just have one huge button to take you directly to internetakias.gr/english :P.

You can also use the keyboard to play somewhere on it a video. Although I am not sure how handy that would be?.
