ISP’s To Charge Internet Usage By The Byte

Time Warner Cable in Beaumont, Texas, decided to make a pioneering (?) step towards Internet charging. They knew that some people out there only use the Internet for checking emails and contact details where as others do heavy useage by downloading movies and songs. So instead of having both user categories paying tha same price and getting the same service, they came up with the idea of charging users per byte. This new plan is not so much to help small time users by paying less, its actually a plan to curb the internet usage of the heavy users.

Internet metering will affect millions, if it is enforced, and many companies that deliver their service online (video games, Blockbuster etc) believe that this will reduce their business.

What do you think about this move?

The first pictures of what seems to be BMW’s M1 concept are starting to surface all over the Internet. The new supercar is expected to have a performance to match the looks!

BMW will celebrate the 30 years since the first M1 at the Villa d’Este Concours, lake Como, and the new version, painted a brilliant hue of metallic bronze, is expected to steel the show.

youtube-tibet

This is a historic day for Internet and for China as over there they have the most Internet users world wide. Till now America used to hold the top position but China with their 228,5 million users topped.

Its a contrast if we think that the government in China censors the Internet traffic and especially access in Youtube!

See the video that the Chinese citizens cannot see.

2038 Bug: The End Of Internet?

internet-2038-the-end

While reading at my RSS I started bumping on sites that mentioned the destruction of Internet in the 19th of January 2038 at 3:14 AM!

Apparently the Unix systems store the time as seconds as a 32bit integer number starting from the 1st of January 1970. At the 19/1/2038 the capacity will run down and according to some articles we will start counting from 1901

In other words the Internet (and not only) will collapse. Till then I imagine that they will make any appropriate changes but still some problems will be there.

You can read more info at www.2038bug.com which is trying to collect info on this matter. You can also read here a very good post and here an article from the Guardian.

The Hulu is one of the most talked about sites of the last few months and it is coming out of its Beta edition. It is a project run by Fox and NBC-Universal, through which anyone can see almost all TV series, but only if you live in America.

Again, as it happened with Pandora, the rest of the world will stay away from a wonderful project because of corporate policies.
