Sea Limousine For Dubai’s World Is Solar Powered

Dubai is building a complex of artificial islands called “The World” which is designed to form a map of the world. Since there are many islands and there is a need to go from and to the mainland, the people behind The World askedĀ Dennis Ingemansson come up with a transport system. He came up with the Sea Limousine which is a solar powered luxury vessel. It has integrated solar cells on the windows, its is powered like a hovercraft and guided by a satellite navigation system.

Do you want a ride in my Flying Saucer?

Well I personally don’t know how, but Mr. Geoff Hatton, a 68 year old hovercraft engineer, sure knows how-or at lest he is trying! Mr Hatton, who obviously cannot stay still after retirement, decided to dedicate his life to designing flying saucers. Officially they are known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and they use a well known aerodynamic principle firstly discovered by Henri Coanda (builder of world’s first jet powered aircraft in 1910) many decades ago.
So why the fuss now? This concept has proven to be more durable, stable and easier to control than other UAVs designed and operated today.
Whats the future on this thing? Well Mr. Hatton’s new toy just got funding from the Department for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform and US Department of Defense to continue to develop his aircrafts. Next step for Mr Hatton is to make the flying saucers bigger and able to fit passengers. As we all know when you combine a great idea with money, something commercial will come out of this and who knows maybe in a few years time we don’t have to be stuck in traffic-we can just fly over it!
