There was an awful lot of hype surrounding this, and allow me to set the record straight. Youtube allows for a moderate number of views per day. This is where all other mathematical factors are limited: 200. No amount of rapid refreshes can change that. Now what people are failing to realize is the ‘view’ counter tracks all traffic so those who were upset with Girlfriend’s rise to the top spot and visited the page with insults literally magnified her chances.
For each visit with an insult, a view was added. For each response, another view added. For each time users reloaded the page to update the comments, another view. At some point, a ‘comment limit’ is reached and you have to enter a code - another view added. Each time the code is incorrectly entered, you must try again, and another view is added. In effect, 1 visit to the page to comment about the number of views Girlfriend recieved could explode into multiple conversations back and forth, and score a dozen or more hits in under a minute. Thanks to fans who despise Avril for whatever reason, the comment board for the Girlfriend video has now evolved into a chatroom. Her view count flow will now rise and fall with number of users who go there to complain about it, and actually instigate the very thing they’re complaining about.
