Memristor Shows The Future Of PC’s

memristor

Back in 1971 Leon Chua, an engineering student studying non-linear circuits, made the assumption that a fourth basic circuit element (besides the the capacitor, resistor and the inductor) exists. He even went all the way to come up with its mathematical expression and its physical behaviour.

Now in HP Labs, scientists manage to create this new element, called memristor. This component can process information in the same manner that the human brain does. It works by remembering how much charge has gone through it and hence it can be used to make memory chips that do not loose their stored information when the PC is switched off.

By having a component whose resistance is increasing depending on how much current has passed through it, PC’s would be able to run not only on 1’s and 0’s but also in in between states, hence carrying more information.

The results from this work will be published in today’s edition of Nature.

Contex, spend 4 years developing what they call “the most perfect condoms in the world” and all this so you can have safe and pleasurable sex.

The iCondom, (which is not related to iPhone or Apple) is a set of four different types of condoms:

iMemory: This condom has the ability to “remember” your penis even during a “possible erectile dysfunction”. Thanks to a special latex material that possesses the effect of memory, it will always remember the greatest possible sizes of your penis during your erection even if you loose it. This way if you have a malfunction your partner will never notice it.

iFood: This is a special latex condom that is edible and contains natural aromatizers.

iLight: This is a condom that shines under darkness, possibly to help you find your way!

iTree: This has a special lubrication to ease the way during anal sex. The lubrication is an extract from the “crying tree” that grows in the Amazon.

The person depicted above is Stephane Rousson the man behind the Zeppy, a balloon (shaped like the Zeppelin Airships) that is powered by muscles! The “pilot” cycles and powers the propellers that move the balloon around.

Google never stops. After having map almost the entire world in High Def images it is time to do something about the Oceans. CNET News.com reported that in December there was a meeting at Googleplex with top oceanic researchers, to discus the potentials of mapping digital the earth’s oceans.

The outcome would be an application similar to Google Earth (or maybe inside Google earth, like Google SKy). The user will be able to navigate through the entire environment, search, zoom, etc. Exactly like Google Earth.

Experts argue that more than 100 years will be needed in order to complete a 3d high resolution scanning of the oceans, but others insist that there are already enough maps for the new Gooogle experiment.

We are waiting :) I think that the outcome will be less impressive than Nintendo’s Endless Ocean

BAE Systems in cooperation with the US Army Research Laboratory will develop miniature robots to for use in urban environment where it might be difficult or dangerous for humans to go. The Micro Autonomous Systems and Technology (MAST) Collaborative Technology Alliance which will also involve universities from across the US.

MAST has a planned duration of five years and if it is successful it will extend for another five years.

Leonardo da Vinci Parachute Does Work!

April 30, 2008 · Filed Under News, Technology · Comment

davinci-parachute

Da Vinci thought of the parachute back in 1485 and it took many centuries till the parachute became a reality. Now a Swiss daredevil called Olivier Vietti-Teppa decided to give a go at a parachute that Da Vinci drew. Following Leonardo’s instructions four equilateral triangles of fabric were stitched to form a pyramid with a base made up from a mosquito net. Actually Da Vinci’s design included a wooden frame for a base but it was replaced with the net. Vietti-Teppa tested it and found that it works perfectly but that it is very difficult to maneuver.
