Lightning Show That Lasts Half a Year
Saturday, February 9, 2008 2:05
Even the worse storm you have been is no match for this area, where the Catatumbo river merges with lake Maracaibo, in Venezuela.
Half the year and for 10 hours each night a constant lightning show takes place and none knows why. An average of 5 lightnings per minute hit the area and scientists guess that it may be due to the cold air from the Andes meeting the warm air from the river. The methane that also rises from the ground is also to blame but I am not sure how that affects the creation of lightings
Have a look at the video and try to think how it is to have this truly amazing show for 10 hours each night for half a year ![]()
