Changes in Spain’s monarchy?

Juan Carlos, Kind of Spain, turns 70 this Saturday but he is not going to enjoy the celebrations. After 32 years in the throne and after managing to guide Spain to a democratic transition, he is faced with public dislike. From lefties to conservatives people are starting to ask not only for his abdication of the throne in favor for his son, Felipe, but also for a general abolishment of monarchy in Spain. Various events have caused the kings popularity to drop such as him telling Hugo Chavez (Venezuela’s president) to shut up along, separatist movement supporters in Catalonia burning his poster (as he symbolizes Spanish unity) and a mini family scandal, that of the divorce of Princess Elena after 12 years of marriage. Most importantly there is an ongoing public discussion on whether monarchy is any good or not.
However he decides to spend his birthday, he will be thinking in the back of his head a solution to his latest problem.

Amazing that the King’s popularity dropped. Internationally he is more famous than ever. And his simple phrase, “por que no te callas?”, is not only sold on ringtones, inspired rap songs, but has been the impetous behind hundreds of t-shirt designs on sites like CafePress.com and neighborhoodlems.com. All hail the King.
Matsonian you are right, internationally his image was always good. People always said that he is a good monarch and knows how to lead a nation. This is in contrast to other monarchs whose main job in the throne is to consume vast amounts of public money and do nothing but waive at parades! I think he should stay, lets hope that when his son takes the lead he will be as wise as his father.
Spanish people should welcome their king, Spain is a God?s own country, God has appointed your king, through the message of Jeremiah in the bible, you know your king, and you have to accept him, Juan Carlos want to leave the thrown as a dead man, remember what happened in SUNAMI, do not bring bad luck to Spanish people, shamefully dethrone your self, Babylon has fall down, and remember its 70 years. You have caused enough pain to people. Go Go Go Juan Carlos. Stop hiding the King, he is a foreigner, and God has made it that he will rule Spain. The world is watching everything that is happening, you cannot silence him. God is with him.
Give him his CROWN.
Dear fernado torres,
That is a very interesting opinion. Do you believe the same for other monarchs around the world?
