A great percentage of these vandalisms seem to originate from an anti-camera group called Motorists Against Detection (MAD) under the leadership of an individual nicknamed ?Captain Gatso?. They seem to be organized and determined as stated on their website, ?This camera has and will continue to be targeted until it is removed once and for all?. On this website they express their objection to speed cameras and even post images of destroyed ones!

Governments and especially the UK one, tend to support the idea of these devices splashing in front of our eyes, figures, statistics etc trying to persuade us that the cameras force the drivers to slow down and hence accident numbers are reduced. I have been driving on UK roads for the past 3 years and what I have seen all over the country is that drivers see the camera, which by law must be visible, slow down and after they pass them, they go on speeding like mad again! Some councils put the cameras, knowing this fact, in order to force drivers to slow down near schools or dangerous roads.

So what is the point? Many wonder and many argue about the positive and negative aspects of installing them. The main complain is not that the government wants to reduce accidents but that the revenue goes straight to the Police?s budget so that they can go and buy more cameras. What people want say is that if the cameras are going to be an unavoidable aspect of our lives we might as well make sure that the revenue to goes for charity, education, health etc.

Have you ever wondered what is inside one? Then have a look at the picture below.

For the moment people believe that these machines are nothing more than a revenue/tax for the government?

It makes you wonder thought what else would the government introduce to ?stop? the speeding drivers? Maybe something like this:

I agree that in towns and cities people should not speed, but in motorway they should at least increase the speed limit to 100mph. The 70mph on motorways was enforced due to the 1973 oil crisis, so we can save on fuel. We again have an oil crisis with prices reaching $100 per barrel, but whether I want to spend my money (on fuel) speeding is my choice and not the governments, we live in a free world.
